Turkish Delight
-May 1st, 2001-
Turkish Delight. Quite possibly the most perplexing thing in the universe. For you see, Turkish Delight has no distinguishing form. It appears in different shapes, sizes, and appears different whenever it is seen. Also, it seems to have a strong, manipulating power over people. So... what exactly is it? Hopefully, this feature will solve that mystery.
First, let us analyze where Turkish Delight comes from, and what it generally is. There have been several TD sightings. The most obvious is the children's novel, "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe", where the weak Edmund falls prey to The Witch's bribe of infinite said item. The other, an episode of Power Puff Girls, in which the power of the Delight tempts even The Mayor into handing the town over to evil(and his Hat!). As you can see, it's pretty powerful stuff.
It's general appearance is completely perplexing. It's easily apparent that it is candy of some sort, but what TYPE is always random... chocolate bon-bons, rainbow-colored rock candy, etc. Whether it can appear as anything else(or any other type of candy) is still a mystery.
So what have we confirmed so far? 1) It's candy, and 2) It's undeniably irresistable. It's also been established that it has no distinct form, other than the fact that it's extreme sugary goodness. But if it's really just a pile of junk food just waiting to rot your teeth, how can it possess even the kindest people into doing things they never would do? Perhaps it is more than a candy; perhaps this "candy" is laced with a narcotic not even the wasted kid down your block knows about. And once this "candy" has been consumed just once, the person is utterly hooked on it to the point of no return(or at least close to it). But then again, in the cases mentioned earlier it's assumed that neither of the characters who consumed TD had done so before hand, so there may be another way the "candy" hooks it's users. Maybe it spreads an airborn pollen, unseen by the eyes, which is inhaled through our nostrils and makes us slaves to the TD without us knowing?
In any case, Turkish Delight is a force to be reckoned with. It controls our minds, making us zombified candy-eaters who have no regard to anything else once we've become hooked. And just like a good con artist, it disguises itself for every new victim. All I can say is this: watch what candy that super villain offers you. It could be your last.
So eat lots of Turkish Delight.
